A visual ethnography project about food, memory, and cultural inheritance.

The work focuses on Lao Chen Braised Fish, a Hui culinary tradition in Kaifeng, Henan. Through the lives, preparation practices, and businesses of three generations of inheritors, the film documents how a traditional food practice continues and changes in contemporary society, while revealing the different choices and attitudes each generation brings to tradition.

I worked as the editor on the project, shaping interviews, observational footage, and scenes of the cooking process into the final narrative. My contribution focused on establishing the film’s rhythm, character relationships, and intergenerational structure.
